Leaf Spring Repair on the Cheap (Tim Provided the information) Written by Randal Needham 30 June 2009 A friend and car enthusiast was relating to me how he repaired the leaf springs on his Jeep Waggoner. Take the width measurement of the leaf spring and take a trip down to your local junkyard. Purchase the leaf springs and bring them home and then take the one that is closet to the length of the leaf with the eyelets in it. Take apart the old springs and then start back with the junkyard springs but be prepared to make minor modifications. The number of leafs you need will depend on the ride height and spring rate (load capability) you are trying to attain. Later model springs are thicker than older models so be prepared to test the ride height and adding or removing leafs as needed. Tim spent $25 at a local junkyard and said his Waggoner has a much better ride and ride height. |
